  • The best way to get started is to join a beginner’s course and learn the foundations of your sport of choice. New beginners’ courses begin a few times a year and information about new beginners’ courses can be found in our news section.

If you have previous experience in one of the sports offered at Chitalada, you can skip the beginners’ course and join the advanced group straight away.

To get started, just show up to class and jump in. Your first training session is always free, after which you can pay the beginners’ course fee or the membership fee, as applicable.

  • If you are late to join a beginners’ course, it is still possible to begin training within the first few weeks. After the halfway point of a course, it may be advisable to wait for the next beginners’ course to start so you have enough time to learn the basics of the sport.

  • When joining a beginners’ course you do not need any special clothing or gear to begin training. Comfortable and flexible sports clothing is sufficient. Footwear is not needed.

However, as you continue training you will quickly learn that basic protective gear makes training a lot more comfortable, as well as allows you to strike with more power and correct technique. You can purchase training gear from our partner Blue Corner Sport, or directly from our City Centre location. Starter pack discounts for each sport are also available.

Groin protection, mouthguard, shin guards, and boxing gloves are the basics across all combat sports, though specific sports may require special gear. Clothing requirements vary by sport, so see your sport’s own page (Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Krav Maga, Junior Thai) or speak with your instructor about what you need.

    • Basic Course – 110€

    • 6 months – 290€ (can be paid in two parts)

    • 12 months – 560€ (paid at once)

    • Junior Thai – 150€/ 6 months

Membership fees can be paid either by bank transfer, in-person at our city center location, or using sports or exercise vouchers. Click here to read more about membership fees and how to pay.

  • Sports insurance is not included in your club membership fee. If you wish to obtain insurance that covers injuries sustained during combat sports, you can purchase this at the same time as you get your sport license. Sports licences are not required to train at Chitalada, however, most sports require you to obtain a license for camps, competitions, etc.

Licenses and insurance can be purchased from suomisport.fi. Ask your instructor for more information about obtaining licenses and insurance.

  • We have many international trainees at Chitalada and welcome you to train. Most of our instructors speak English and in many classes instruction will be given in both Finnish and English. If an instructor is not able to teach in English, there is always a fellow trainee happy to translate. Language is not an issue!

  • Trainees between the ages of 6-12 should begin in the Junior Thai group. As they progress, the instructor will evaluate their skill and physical size and determine when it’s best for them to move on to the adult group.

There are no age restrictions on adult groups (ex. no 18-year minimum for Krav Maga) and no one is too old to start training.

  • All levels of fitness are welcomed at the beginners’ courses. Each trainee’s own development and progress are unique, and everyone can train at a level that suits their physical ability. Your fitness level will only improve with training, so getting started is the best way to improve.

  • To transfer from another club, all you need to do is pay the membership fee and join the advanced group of your sport. If you transfer to Chitalada in the middle of the season, a pro-rated discount will be applied – i.e. you will not pay for the portion of the season before your transfer.

  • If you have previous experience in one of the sports offered at Chitalada (Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Krav Maga) you may be eligible to skip the basic course of that sport and directly join the advanced group. If there has been a long gap in your training, your instructor may recommend that you repeat the basic course to help you reestablish the foundations.

If you have experience in one genre of combat sports, it is not recommended that you skip the basic course of a different sport. While there likely is overlap, each sport is unique and emphasizes different things. The basic course helps ensure that you have the knowledge and skill necessary to train safely and effectively.
